St Neots Preparatory School is a coeducational day and weekly boarding school for children aged 3 months to 13 years. It is located in the Hampshire village of Eversley, about 8 miles north east of Hook and 13 miles north east of Basingstoke. St Neot’s was founded in 1888, initially as a boys school in Berkshire. Now accepting boys and girls, the school has been in Eversley since 1894 and sits in 70 acres of grounds. It teaches around 360 pupils.
St Neots School contains one Swiss chalet-style boarding house on campus which can house 36 pupils, girls on one side, boys on the other. Pupils can board from Year 4 and all boarders stay between Monday and Friday and go home at weekends. The boarding accommodation also allows for flexi-boarding whereby some pupils can stay for a few nights. Because of the relatively small amount of boarders, the school prides itself on having a family home feel to the boarding house. There are boarding parents, boarding tutors and caterers at the house and there is a huge range of activities available after school, ranging from sports, film nights and computer game competitions.
The large amount of grounds at the school contains a wealth of good facilities including a cricket pitch, an all weather astroturf, football pitches, an indoor swimming pool, a gym-sports hall and a purpose built performing arts centre. With the picturesque setting and large amount of woodland within the grounds, the school is sometimes used for wedding receptions and other functions at weekends.
In addition to the large Victorian house which contains the main prep school, the campus also contains separate buildings for the early years department and the pre-prep school, all of which are modern and very well equipped.
The admissions process for the pre-nursery and nursery simply requires the parents to come and have a tour and a short meeting/interview. Children moving on into the lower school normally receive their place automatically. St Neots is non-selective so any external children transferring into the lower or main school are not required to sit an exam. However they will need to have an interview with the Head and provide references from their current school before a place is offered. Further information on the admissions process and any available bursaries are available from the school via the contact details above.
