Farnborough Hill School is a private independent Roman Catholic day school for girls aged between 11 and 16 years. It was founded in 1889 and has been at it’s current, Grade I listed site since 1927. The school is set in an impressive 65 acres of award winning grounds and teaches approximately 560 girls.
The school has a huge range of excellent facilities ranging from an indoor swimming pool, a sports hall, a chapel, a theatre, a Sixth Form Common room, a video editing suite and a radio station as well as much much more. Since the school moved to it’s present site in the 1920s, a programme of expansion and renovation has been ongoing, meaning the facilities are incredibly modern and comprehensive.
Farnborough Hill operates a house system and girls entering the school will join one of the five ‘houses’ for the duration of her academic life. Their are regular inter-house competitions including sports, quizzes and design competitions. There are a huge variety of music, drama and sporting activities constantly running at the school as well as school trips, including a trip to Sandhurst and an Austrian skiing holiday.
After taking their GCSEs, many girls opt to stay on at Farnborough Hill and take their pick from the many AS and A Levels available to them. The Sixth Form girls are also encouraged to take on a pastoral and responsible role within the school, leading many activities and clubs and generally being role models for the younger girls. There are around 50 girls in the Sixth Form with many going on to some of the country’s top universities, including Oxford and Cambridge.
All pupils seeking admission to Farnborough Hill School are required to undertake an entrance exam which normally takes place in the January before the new academic year starts in the September. Entrants aged 11 will take exams in English. Maths and Verbal Reasoning. Year 8 entrants will take exams in English, Maths and French and will be required to produce a school report. Girls seking entry at years 9 or 10 will take be required to provide a school report and take exams in Maths, English, Science and Frence. An offer of a place in the Sixth Form is subject to GCSE results and an interview. Scholarships and bursaries are available at the discretion of the school.
