Typically, children will spend one year in the well-resourced Kindergarten department. The department is made up of 2 classrooms and a garden, as well as access to the extensive school grounds. The Kindergarten has 5 staff and opens weekdays from 8.30am – 3.25pm, except on Thursdays when the day ends at 12pm.
The pre-prep schools houses children between the ages of 4 – 7 and the children have a broad curriculum that provides a range of opportunities including French, music lessons, ICT, religious studies, sports as well as much more. Their is a a strong emphasis on after school clubs and activities too which contains a range of sports clubs, drama and arts and crafts. These typically run until 4.30pm.
The main prep school starts at Year 3 (age 7) and this is also the time when children have the option of boarding. The prep school is made up of just over 300 pupils and benefits from a great amount of facilities including huge playing fields, a theatre, a sports hall, an indoor swimming pool and new art and design studios. Farleigh School has a strong Catholic identity with the headmaster is also being a priest, providing pastoral care and chaplaincy work.
The school offers full, weekly and flexi boarding accommodation across a range of boarding houses. Each house has an experienced staff member responsible for the smooth running of the accommodation and the well being of the children. All have excellent facilities and there is a wide variety of events and activities at weeknights and weekends. New boarders are partnered up with older, more experienced boarders to help them with the settling in process when they first arrive.
In terms of admissions, there are no formal examinations for the Kindergarten or the Pre-prep school and children moving into the Prep school do not normally need an assessment to be offered a place. External applicants usually undertake an informal assessment and school reports will be required before a place is offered. Means-tested bursaries are available and Farleigh School has a strong history of pupils gaining scholarships to a range of senior schools.
